The April 27 launch
On April 27, 2026, tvScientific by Pinterest announced that advertisers could use Pinterest audiences in Connected TV campaigns. Its release described the launch as the first major milestone after Pinterest completed the tvScientific acquisition in February. The offer combines Pinterest’s first-party signals with tvScientific’s performance advertising platform to reach audiences beyond Pinterest itself. This is not simply a promoted Pin displayed on a larger screen. 2
For business owners, the development matters because it changes how a platform can commercialise intent data. People may explore ideas in one environment and encounter advertising in another. That creates planning opportunities, but it also introduces important questions about relevance, measurement and the actual relationship between an observed interest and a purchase.
Why planning signals matter
Pinterest is associated with exploration and organising ideas. From a marketing perspective, an emerging intention can be useful for products requiring comparison or preparation. However, interest in a style or project is not identical to an imminent order, nor does it establish a preference for buying from one particular brand.
A CTV campaign therefore needs a plausible buying situation at its centre. Do not assume the same audience responds identically to a saved image and a television advertisement. Viewing context, distance from purchase and available interaction are different. Creative and measurement should reflect those differences instead of treating the campaign as ordinary social retargeting.
Rethink the creative experience
A television advertisement must make sense without an immediate click. Show the product, the problem it solves and the brand name clearly. A memorable destination may help, but avoid filling the screen with instructions. Check legibility and the audio experience rather than approving the advertisement only from a small preview inside a production tool.
For a business without existing video resources, production costs can transform the economics of a test. Audience availability is not an obligation to purchase inventory. Ask about market access, eligibility, creative requirements and budget expectations before adding the channel to a commercial plan or making commitments to an external production supplier.
Attribution does not prove causation
CTV campaigns may be associated with later customer actions, but that association needs interpretation. Ask the supplier which attribution windows it uses, how it handles households and what counts as a conversion. Check overlap with other platforms so the same order is not counted repeatedly across several performance reports and then added together.
Pinterest’s announcement deserves attention as a major expansion of intent-based distribution. For most teams, the appropriate response is a disciplined evaluation rather than an immediate budget transfer. If the offer, creative and measurement are not ready, access to another screen can simply amplify an existing weakness. Sales and support feedback can help distinguish genuine demand from a temporary rise in searches or visits that does not translate into sustainable customer relationships.
Run a controlled commercial test
Start with one business hypothesis: which customer obstacle are you trying to remove, and what outcome would justify keeping the change? Assign an implementation owner and someone responsible for checking the data. If one person handles both configuration and interpretation, arrange a second review before increasing investment. Record the starting configuration so the eventual result can be explained and reproduced rather than attributed to an unspecified algorithm improvement.
Next, build a short commercial dashboard. Separate platform-reported revenue from revenue confirmed in your business systems, and include costs that never appear in the marketing interface. Returns, discounts, staff time and customer support can change the conclusion of an apparently successful experiment. Do not compare periods with radically different promotions or product availability without documenting those differences and their likely effects on purchasing behaviour.
Finally, make an explicit decision to continue, adjust or stop. A new feature does not automatically justify another subscription or moving money away from a profitable channel. Keep changes that make life easier for customers and remain manageable for your team. The recommendations here are a planning framework, not performance promises or results attributed to the agency.
